Earthquake Drill

*Lun Padidu, Sarangani Province – September 26, 2024*
In an effort to enhance disaster preparedness, Lun Padidu National High School held a surprise earthquake drill on the morning of September 26, 2024. The activity, which was spearheaded by the school's Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) coordinator, Ms. Langkahura Kamid, aimed to educate students and teachers on proper procedures during seismic events.
Despite the hot weather, the drill ran smoothly, with students and teachers promptly following the safety protocols. The local Philippine National Police (PNP) officers were on-site to facilitate the exercise alongside the school’s faculty. Their coordination ensured the efficient execution of the drill, with clear instructions and organized movement of participants.
The exercise began without prior notice to simulate real-life conditions, making it a valuable experience for everyone involved. Teachers guided their students through the drop, cover, and hold technique before safely evacuating to designated areas within the school grounds.
Ms. Kamid expressed her satisfaction with the outcome of the drill, noting that regular earthquake drills are essential in preparing the school community for any potential emergencies. "We cannot predict when an earthquake will happen, but we can prepare ourselves to minimize risks. This is why drills like this are crucial," she stated.
The PNP officers praised the students and teachers their cooperation and timely response. They reiterated the importance of preparedness and offered further guidance on safety measures during emergencies.
This earthquake drill is part of the school's ongoing efforts to prioritize the safety and well-being of its community, ensuring that everyone is equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively to disasters.
